who are we

who are we

VI.SA. Dance Project is a collective co-founded by Virginia Poli and Sara Maurizi, Italian contemporary dance artists based in London.

The project emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic, as Brexit was being finalised, as a way to express and reconnect with our European roots and artistic practice.

Our vision is to create work that explores cultural identity, diversity, stereotypes, and integration.

In a time of growing division, we believe dance is a powerful way to celebrate individuality and foster connection.

what do we do

what do we do

The collective creates choreographic and performance work addressing political and human themes. Using the body as our primary tool of enquiry and physical expression as narrative, we explore movement through improvisation and physical theatre practices.

Our work ranges from choreographic duets and movement direction to modelling and creating work within educational settings.

teaching and community

VI.SA. Dance Project is committed to sharing its practice with both professionals and the wider community. We believe dance and creativity are for everyone.

Our aim is to provide tools that open up new physicalities and ways of thinking, inviting participants to engage deeply with the language of the body. This commitment has led us to develop our teaching across a wide range of settings - from community workshops for older adults, often experiencing loneliness and isolation, to classes for professional dancers and young students seeking to expand their physicality and develop tools for embodiment and devising.

We have delivered workshops and classes across a range of venues and institutions, includingMeet me at The Albany (London), Tripspace (London), Centre 151 (London), Trinity Laban (London), Mycenae House (London), Umbria Danza Festival (Perugia, Italy).

For enquiries about workshops and classes get in touch at: vi.sa.danceproject@gmail.com.
