Performance

Originally from Italy, Sara began her dance training at the age of six at Centro Civico Dance Gallery under the direction of Valentina Romito and Rita Petrone.

She graduated with First-Class Honours in Contemporary Dance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she received the Marion North Award for Outstanding Achievement in Contemporary Dance Performance. During her training, she performed works by Hofesh Shechter, Theo TJ Lowe, and Heidi Rustgaard (H2 Dance), among others.

She then joined VERVE, the postgraduate company of Northern School of Contemporary Dance, under the artistic direction of Matthew Robinson. With the company, she toured works by Maxine Doyle, Joan Clevillé, Ben Wright, and Noa Zuk & Ohad Fishof. Following this experience, she completed her MA in Contemporary Dance Performance with Distinction, including a practice-based dissertation on the performative disfiguration of stereotypical narratives attached to the female body in art, film, and literature.

Since 2023, she has been working with Marina Abramović, first in the artist’s retrospective at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, re-performing Luminosity, Imponderabilia, and Nude with Skeleton. In 2025, she performed in Vexations at the Southbank Centre, a 13-hour durational work directed by Abramović in collaboration with pianist Igor Levit. She is currently a dancer in Balkan Erotic Epic, working across immersive and theatre formats under the direction of Abramović and choreographer Blenard Azizaj. In 2026, she performed at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples in a production curated by Marina Abramović, Gustavo Dudamel, and Nabil Elderkin.

This collaboration has been profoundly transformative, opening new ways of understanding performance through duration, presence, connection, stillness, and breath, and influencing her wider creative practice.

Since 2021, Sara has worked as both a dancer and rehearsal director with WomanEwer, London-based dance company led by Laura Kenyon. With the company, she has toured internationally and delivered workshops across the UK, Mexico, India, Spain, and Italy. She has been involved in the creation and touring of J’ai Un Bleu (2021–2026), Kah’ Loca (2024–present), and We Are Not Beautiful (premiering September 2026). In 2025, she also performed with WomanEwer at Marseille’s Slow Fashion Week, wearing designs by Jade Tekhil.

What Sara values most in the act of performing is the ongoing discovery it offers. Each performance holds the possibility of encountering something new: within herself, with others, in the work, and in the audience. This continuous unfolding is what makes the experience feel alive and unique every time, offering new opportunities for connection and growth.
