BIOGRAPHY
Sara Maurizi is a dance artist based between London and Europe Mainland. Born and raised in Italy, Sara started dancing at the age of 6 at Centro Civico Dance Gallery, directed by Valentina Romito and Rita Petrone.
After moving to London, she graduated from Trinity Laban with a First Class Honours Degree in Contemporary Dance and received the Marion North Award for Outstanding Achievements in Contemporary Dance Performance. Throughout her training, Sara had the opportunity to perform in works by Hofesh Shechter, Theo TJ Lowe, Heidi Rustgaard (H2 Dance) amongst others.
Sara was a company member of VERVE 19, in Leeds. Under the Artistic Direction of Matthew Robinson, she toured works by Maxine Doyle, Joan Cleville’, Ben Wright, and Noa Zuk and Ohad Fishof.
As a freelancer, Sara has worked on stage productions, TV series, and music videos; collaborating with choreographers and companies such as Laura Kenyon - WOMANEWER, Tommy Cattin - EREM Dance, Maxine Doyle, Joao Cidade, Valentina Romito, Alice Gosti, Supple Nam, Foco al Aire Producciones (Mexico), and Mattia de Virgiliis (Italy) amongst others.
Currenlty, Sara is a dancer in the Italian-European project WOMANMADE, touring internationally works by Patscharaporn Distakul (Germany), Kimberly Bartosik (USA) and Claudia Lavista (Mexico).
Sara is the co-founder of the London based collective VI.SA. Dance Project (see VI.SA. for more info). Their first work, (R)esistentia, has been produced between London and Italy and will premiere at Umbria Danza Festival (IT) in July 2022.
In May 2021 the film (D)isposable, created in collaboration with the Berlin-based French dance artist Joséphine Auffray, premiered at the Berlin Festival of Performing Arts.
In 2019, Sara produced her first solo work, All those little deaths, at NSCD for her MA Thesis. The work received high praise for its provocative and nuanced challenge of the heteronormative gender stereotypes enacted on the female identifying bodies throughout history.
In 2018, Sara created her first stage piece, The Nine Circles, as part of her BA dissertation.
